持ってないものばかり、追いかけて

靴がないとしょげていた。

両足もがれたその人に
通りで会う以前には…。

冒頭の文は、私が自分に言い聞かせているものです。

２０才の頃、友達のつながりで四肢がない方のお手伝いをしていました。
四肢がないので、夜、寝返りが打てないのです。
トイレも専用の機具を使わなければいけません。
電気をつけるのも、
物をとるのも、
電話も、
全て口に噛んだ長い棒で行うのです。

声だけで電話に出れる、電話機をプレゼントしたらとても喜んでくれました。
そして、とても上手に口に絵筆を噛み、絵を描くのです。

幾晩も寝食を共にしたのに、彼が愚痴を言ったり、嘆いたりした姿を見た事がありません。
なのに。
幼すぎた私は、五体満足と言う意味も、今持っている幸せにも
気付けませんでした。

持ってないものばかり、追いかけていました。
今も少なからずそうです。

当時、彼はそんな私を見て、何も言いませんでした。
いったい、何を思っていたのでしょう。。。


『あなたは両足を、1000億円で手放しますか？』

私なら、しません。怖くて、出来ません。
あなたは家族を、1000億円で手放しますか？
両手は？
両目は？
子どもは？　…

今、私たちが持っているものを足してみると、どれだけの財産になるのでしょう。
まさに、プライスレス。
お金なんか、ましてや「自分」とは引き換えに出来ません。

「不足しているものより、持っているものを数えよう」。
その意味が、１０年経って、やっと分かってきた気がします。

いいお話ですね。俺もずっと無い物を追いかけていたのかもしれません。今は等身大の自分に合う人生を送ろうと思っています。

私もいつも持ってない物ばかり追いかけています。
きっと死ぬ間際までそうなのかもしれませんが。。。
その比率を減らしてその分幸せを感じる心を増やして行きたいと思います。
